Looking for a new movie to liven up date night? How about going to www.worldvasectomyday.org on November 7th where they are live streaming actual vasectomies this year.
On October 18, 2013, co-founders Jonathan Stack and Dr. Doug Stein started World Vasectomy Day. Last year they inspired 100 doctors in 25 countries to perform 1,000 vasectomies in a 24-hour period. The event was so successful, they declared November 7th as World Vasectomy Day 2014. This year World Vasectomy Day hopes to include 250 doctors in 30 countries to perform 1,500 vasectomies. And yes, some of those 1,500 snips will be live streamed!
More importantly, the founders of World Vasectomy Day hope to generate an open and honest discussion about the procedure. They hope to dispel common myths and remind people of the benefits of considering a vasectomy as part of responsible family planning. In fact, for Stack and Stein, it’s not about the numbers, but the “quality of the conversations inspired.”
So, if you, a friend, or family member has been considering a vasectomy, or you would like to start that conversation in your own family, check out the World Vasectomy Day website or their Facebook Page. And join in on November 7th – who knows…maybe you’ll even enjoy the live stream! Popcorn is probably inappropriate, though.
